Making Quite Time Work

I'm sure for some this will be an irrelevant blog post since their life always runs right on track and they never have to deal with unexpected delays or obstacles to their carefully planned daily routine. However, for the rest of us struggling to do our part to keep the train on the tracks of life and balance spending time with God, I just simply wanted to say keep going, keep growing, and keep learning how to improve your relationship with the Lord. There's no shame in admitting it needs work, could be deeper, or more consistent. The important thing is to have quiet time. There have been times in my life that both of those words felt so far out of reach. Quiet was something that only existed in my car after the kids were dropped off at daycare and I was trying to get to work. And "time" was a commodity that only existed on that vacation that we dreamed we'd take one day. But somehow, as a Christian, deep down I longed to have a deeper quiet time with God and the Word. The day I put my resignation in at work was exciting since I was convinced it would be the beginning of a deeper quiet time....because I would have, you guessed it, time. Boy, was I wrong!!! About three weeks in, I was really missing those two15-minute breaks and a lunch break! Those were like scheduled, adult timeouts.

So how does a quiet time for talking to AND listening to God through his Word fit into our daily schedule? We have to make it a priority. That's as simple as it is. When we need gas in the car, we somehow, at some point make it happen because we don't want to be sitting on the side of the road. There's plenty of Scripture to support seeking him early in the morning. But make it work for you. All our lives are different and no two quiet times will look the same. But each of us who are saved have the Holy Spirit to guide us in our journey. If it's listening to a Bible reading app while you're driving, reading during the kids' sports practice, praying while waiting in the school pickup line, praying in the shower, etc. Just be deliberate in your time available. He is worthy of the effort for the gift of the blessings that keep us so busy. Walk with Him and talk with Him continually and he will draw nigh. Friend, he cares so much for you. Seek him while He may be found. Much love, JH
